Be Kind Please Rewind

My blog posts seem to be rewinding in time through music!
The next step is to post some funky late 90's house.
I remember hearing all of these songs then, but they weren't in the forefront of my mind.
In the late 90's I was exploring Massive Attack, Portishead, and jungle music.
I was also (and always) into rock, and severely crushing on Ani DiFranco.

But here are some totally classic late 90's house tunes for you to bounce to this Thursday afternoon.
Most of the work has been done for me, since Velociraptor posted a ton up already!
(RAAR RAAR means "thanks!" in dinosaur)

Tasty Tuesday

Today I'll post a bunch of cute Bento Boxes
I am super busy and in a rush, so this is going to be a fun picture post with info courtesy of Wikipedia:

Bento (弁当 bentō?)[1] is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento consists of rice, fish or meat, and one or more pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container.

Bento can be very elaborately arranged in a style called kyaraben or "character bento". Kyaraben is typically decorated to look like popular Japanese cartoon characters (anime), characters from comic books (manga), or video game characters.

Amy gifted me with some incredible bento supplies a while back,
so I'm planning on making a bento, Andy McParrot style.

Another popular bento style is "oekakiben" or "picture bento", which is decorated to look like people, animals, buildings and monuments, or items such as flowers and plants.

And since this is playing on my computer I'm going to gift you with this "way back play back" from 2002.
MEMORIES!!!

Har Har Har

Everything is making me laugh today.

My cheesy jokes are making me laugh.

The word "BUTTON" is making me laugh.
butt-ton. butt-ton.

Wishing my friend "Happy Birthday" in Korean makes me laugh (and smile).

 SAENGIL CHUKHA HAMNIDA!

That angry actor from Cliffhanger makes me laugh.

The wrestler on TV dressed in some goofy gold mask makes me laugh.

Like, really?????

Anyhow, here is some bacterial goodness.

The TV follows Tadayasu Sawaki, a first-year college student at an agricultural university,
who has a unique ability to see and communicate with bacteria and other micro-organisms.

I think I know why I'm in such a funny mood.
It's because my friend Robin had some weird stuff in her purse today.

1.  a box of ginger
2.  a beaded rhinoceros
3.  a poem by Rumi
4.  a postcard from Costa Rica
(and the best)
5. two bundles of shoelaces

The giant bunches of shoelaces made me laugh so hard.
Randomness makes me SO happy.

My Nerdy Childhood

Tonight, over salmon sashimi, we started talking about theme songs from old TV shows.
Here are some of my favorites. Some nerdy, some not so nerdy.
I picked some clips from more obscure shows because I could post clips from shows like Transformers, but everyone remembers those, and
I'd like to trigger some long dormant memory in you.
Unearthing tiny glimpses of things forgotten is delightful :)

This first one is super old and you may only recognize the music.
It was an educational program broadcast on TV Ontario that I used to watch
(I started being nerdy at an early age).
It taught the concepts of physics, and I loved the ones about molecules.
Everyone should watch these. They're great! Click here to watch them all!

Eureka!

"Some of the Molecules Important to Human Life" - by Raphael Abrams at

The following show is responsible for the connection my mind makes whenever I put a hat on my head. Somehow it makes perfect sense to think that it will transport me to somewhere new, but of course this impulse only lasts for a second. I wish I had magic hats.

Harriet's Magic Hats

I'm not sure if they had Reading Rainbow in the States, but this was probably my favorite show.
And Geordi LaForge is the host! WOO HOO!

A TRUE STORY

For years I had a melody in my head and I could not figure out where it was from.
Occasionally I'd sing it to someone and try to see if they knew it too.
But nobody knew it, and it remained a mystery
Then one night I was surfing around old TV shows on Youtube,
and I found a cute show called Jeremy the Bear
I listened to the theme song with no recollection until I got to the end.
And then I almost fell off my seat.
The melody lasts from 0:41 to 0:55.

It's absolutely amazing how the mind stores memories and information.
I don't actually remember very much from the show at all. Just that little melody.

Jeremy The Bear

(maybe THAT would make a good Halloween costume!)

And I'll leave you with this one: Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings.

Well you know my name is Andy,
and the things I draw come true!

The Little Prince

Who remembers watching this show?  I think the theme song has been burned into my memory forever.

Le Petit Prince was written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery in 1943.

And as if I didn't need another reason to visit Japan, there is The Museum of The Little Prince in Hakone, Japan, featuring outdoor squares and sculptures like the B 612 Asteroid, the Lamplighter Square, and a sculpture of the little prince. (wikipedia)

"My drawing is not of a hat.  It is a boa constrictor that ate an elephant."

"And so I've drawn the inside of the boa constrictor, so that grown-ups can understand. They always need explanations."

Countdown to Lollapalooza

Wow. How old was I when this came out?

And I've decided. This is pretty much what I'll be wearing the whole time. It's easy. Jeans and a plain tank. An army hat if my hair looks gross. And a necklace. That's it.
I really wanted to get more adventurous with my outfits, but you know what? I'll be standing around all day in the sun at a music festival and I want to be comfortable.
Bring on the good ol' army fatigue.

The Andy McParrot Show

If the Andy McParrot Show had a theme song, THIS would be it:

Mario Paint Song

Do you remember it from Mario Paint for Super Nintendo?

Painting in the park, sitting on a blanket under a tree, having a picnic with awesome friends!!  Just like the song!

Edison Twins

Ok.... WHO REMEMBERS THIS SHOW? and what do you remember about it?

I remember I liked it. And I remember that I liked spooky episodes. It also made me wish and dream for a twin, but other than that I don't remember much...
